Commander Legends – A Brief Talk After The Spoilers

Spoilers for the new Magic: The Gathering set Commander Legends have been revealed, and I must admit that I am very hyped for this new set! I’ve been playing the Commander format during the last two and a half years and this set is just perfect. There are many new options for new commanders (and also reprints) and Partner is back!

In this article I won’t talk about every single card, but I will divide it two sections. The first one will be about the cards I might add in my already existing decks. The second and last one will be about new cards that I particularly like.

Please note that I will express my personal opinion, so I won’t talk about every single new card. Commander Legends is really a good set and it has tons of interesting cards for any taste. They revamp some already known mechanics and add new ones, making it the dream set for every EDH player!

Possible Upgrades For My Decks

I mainly found upgrades one of my decks, but I may be adding a new card to both my Edgar Markov and Tuvasa the Sunlit‘s decks.
For Edgar Markov, I think that Sengir, The Dark Baron could be a nice add, especially for the ability of gaining two +1/+1 when a creature dies.
For Tuvasa The Sunlit (here’s my deck list, it’s still a work in progress) Triumphant Reckoning could be interesting, but I am a bit concerned about its mana cost.

Mostly of the cards that I noticed could be really interesting for my Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma deck. Kamahl, Heart of Krosa will easilly take Overrun‘s place, since it’s a creature that has the same effect every turn. Apex Devastator, Dawnglade Regent and Kodama of the East Tree are also creatures that I would love to include.
I also think that I will put Court of Bounty instead of Abundance, since it looks more useful for the type of deck I have built.

New Cards I Like And A Possible New Deck?

Commander Legends is full of strong and interesting cards. However, of all the spoilers I have seen, only two cards may be my next commanders in brand new decks, and these cards are Abomination of Llanowar and Hamza, Guardian of Arashin.

Hamza, Guardian of Arashin for me could be an interesting build because I already have a -1/-1 counter themed deck, which is Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons (you can check my deck list here). I would like to try the opposite direction, and instead put +1/+1 counters on my own creatures. I guess we’ll see if I will go through with Hamza or another commander.

Abomination of Llanowar could be a very interesting build: elves is one of the strongest tribes in Magic: The Gathering. It could also be cheap to build. I am already thinking about making one myself!
In my opinion Miara, Thorn of the Glade, Nadier, Agent of the Duskenel, Imperious Perfect and Immaculate Magistrate are all great possible adds for a nice elves/reanimator themed deck.

Other cards that I like are Akroma, Vision of Ixidor, Opposition Agent, Szat’s Will and Jeweled Lotus. Yurlock of Scorch Thrash could also be a real pain in the as- very funny commander, especially for your opponents.

I am also happy that we’ll finally have the enemy colored bond lands. Vault of Champions, Undergrowth Stadium, Rejuvenating Springs, Spectator Seating and Training Center are great adds for the mana base.

Bonus: I love this card with all my heart
