2021 is finally here! Since I ended last year with my 2020 (Video)Gaming Wrap Up, I decided to write this article before anything else.
I am starting this new year without many expectation about new releases, but I still have twelve months of time to be surprised. In this article I will share with you what I am waiting for between videogames, Magic: The Gathering new sets and Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition new manuals. I will also include some videogames that I don’t think I’ll play in 2021, just like I did last year.
Magic: The Gathering
Wizard of the Coast already started the spoilers for the new set Kaldheim. We haven’t seen too much yet, but I am already pretty much hyped about it. Realmwalker and Canopy Tactitian will go straight away in my Abomination of Llanowar deck with Lathril: Blade of Elves, which will be in a preconstructed deck. Also, Toski, Bearer of Secrets is super cool!
I am also interested in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, which is based on Dungeons & Dragons, and Modern Horizons 2. We still have to see what Wizard of the Coast has in store for us, but I have faith that we will have another great year for Magic: The Gathering and EDH players!
Dungeons & Dragons 5e
We can actually only take a guess about what Wizard of the Coast is preparing for this 2021. My guess is that we will for sure get another Magic: The Gathering setting manual since the ones about Ravnica and Theros did really well. Maybe we will get a Kaldheim setting manual along with the new MTG set? My bet goes on older settings to be honest.
I also think that we could get at least two new adventure modules (since we “only” got one in 2020). We could also start to see at least the works to publish a manual about a beloved Dungeons & Dragons’ setting, but I think such a book would come out in 2022.
Videogames
This 2021 looks like it will be weird for me from a gaming perspective: I am only really expecting three games, which are Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne HD Remaster. That’s it. These are be the games that I (hope I) will buy at launch.
No More Heroes 3 and Tales of Arise, which should come out during 2021, don’t intrigue me anymore as much as they did last year. We will also have the release of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, but I am still unsure if I will buy it on Day One or if I’ll wait a bit.
To speak briefly of the new generation of consoles, I am not interested in both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Before even considering the purchase of a next gen console I will wait and see what they will have to offer at least in 2022.
I will dedicate this 2021 to the many games I still have in my backlog, and I’ll see what the next announcements will be.
